In the latest twist to the 26/11 trial, lone surviving Pakistani gunman Ajmal Amir Kasab claimed in court on Friday that he entered India by the Samjhauta Express with a passport in hand and was picked up by police at ‘‘Juhu Chowpatty’’ in Mumbai ‘‘20 days’’ before the attack. And, when the time came, he was ‘‘framed by the Crime Branch’’.

By insisting that he had been framed and that another terrorist, whom he called Abu Ali, was responsible for the crimes attributed to him, Kasab sought to discredit the mountain of evidence stacked against him, the testimony of 610 eyewitnesses and his own plea of guilt given just six months earlier. Dec 11, 2009: Kasab picks up Marathi during 26/11 Mumbai attack trial

“Nahin, Nahin, Taap Nahin (No, No, I don’t have fever),” these words in Marathi were uttered by Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab [ Images ] in the 26/11 terror trial court when the court staff enquired from him whether he was unwell.

Ever since the trial began in May, Kasab, a fourth standard dropout of an Urdu medium school, has been keenly observing the proceedings and picked up bits of English and even Marathi as witnesses, lawyers and the judge speak in these languages although the evidence is recorded in English.

“Tumhi Nighun Ja (You may leave),” were the first words in Marathi which Kasab learnt as Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam would utter these to him after the court proceedings. Not short on humour, Kasab now sometimes says “Tumhi Nighun Ja” to Nikam during the lunch recess before both of them burst into laughter, breaking the sombre monotony of the court proceedings. Sep 07, 2009: After biryani, Kasab demands basmati rice to eat

Mumbai: After mutton biryani, Mumbai terror attacks accused Ajmal Kasab now wants basmati rice to be served to him in jail.

The Superintendent of Arthur Jail, where Kasab is lodged, told that Kasab wants spicy food and basmati rice for himself and if he does not get the dish of his choice he gets furious and abuses the staff of the jail.

Last week, he had demanded basmati rice and before that wanted mutton biryani, Jail Superintendent Rajendra Dhamne said on Monday.

“Kasab’s mood swings still continue and time and again we reprimand him,” he said. Read Full Story…

Jul 22, 2009: Hang me, punish me: Kasab pleads to court

Mumbai: Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only gunman on trial for the terrorist attacks on Mumbai, on Wednesday told a court he must be punished and pleaded that he be hanged for his crimes.

“I did not confess under pressure–I should be hanged if the court decides so,” said Kasab before a special court which is trying him for his role in terror attacks in November.

Mumbai: Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist captured in the Mumbai terror attacks, is getting an insight into the life of the apostle of peace, Mahatma Gandhi.

Jan 06, 2009: Pak should accept Kasab’s nationality: India

New Delhi: After providing evidence on Mumbai attacks, India today said Pakistan should acknowledge that Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested, is its national to demonstrate it is willing to cooperate.

Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said acceptance of Kasab’s Pakistani nationality would be the “first step” to indicate Islamabad’s intention to cooperate. Read Full Story…

Jan 11, 2009: Chargesheet in Mumbai 26/11 case by Jan 24

Mumbai Police is expected to file a chargesheet into the 26/11 terror strike before January 24 and the two key Lashkar-e-Taiba Mohammad (LeT) handlers in Pakistan are likely to be named.

The lone surviving terrorist Ajmal Amir Iman Qasab, whose Pakistani identity has been acknowledged by Islamabad, will face charges ranging from murder, attempt to murder and theft to waging war against the country, officials said.

The Maharashtra Government has already decided to set up a special court to conduct the trial. The chargesheet will cover mainly Qasab’s conversation with his handlers in Pakistan, his interrogation report besides eyewitnesses who saw him spraying bullets on the night of November 26 last.
